Cosmetic Surgery Essay Example for Free
Cosmetic Surgery Essay Finally, cosmetic surgery can cause an addiction by society trends and Body Dimorphic Disorder. No one is perfect, and there is no ââ¬Å"perfectismâ⬠either. People often complain about something on their body. They may think that their noses are shorter than others. Maybe, they think beautiful women should have big eyes. Sometimes, they may wish their lips to be a little bit thicker. However, the truth is people are a product of the love between their mom and dad. They should accept it as a present that their parents gave them. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), ââ¬Å"The top five surgical cosmetic procedures in 2007 were: liposuction (456,828 procedures); breast augmentation (399,440 procedures); eyelid surgery (240,763 procedures); abdominoplasty (185,335 procedures); and breast reduction (153,087 procedures) (ââ¬Å"Highlights of the ASAPS 2007 Statistics on Cosmetic Surgeryâ⬠). Based on the fact, most surgeries were done because they felt unsatisfied about their body. They want to change their beauties by using the plastic surgery to be more attractive. Nowadays, our society is developing so fast that it creates a lot of ways to make people look more beautiful or even younger by using make-up products, skin care or doing exercise to maintain a good and healthy body. That is good enough to make them look better based on what they have. More importantly, even if they do a cosmetic surgery, it does still not guarantee the expected results: The potential exists that the surgery will not produce the ââ¬Å"idealâ⬠look the patient was seeking in spite of the surgeonââ¬â¢s best efforts. Cosmetic surgery is not an exact science, so potential patients need to keep in mind that there is no way to know what the final outcome will look like until the procedure has been performed and the recovery period has passed. (ââ¬Å"The Pros And Cons Of Havingà Cosmeticà Surgeryâ⬠) Therefore, nothing is 100% perfect. Being yourself is accepting the truth, and finding other ways to improve what you are not happy about are the best choices a person should follow. Finally, there is still something more important than appearance. What would we think if a Miss Universe wins with a low education and without a good heart? Then, the ââ¬Å"beautyâ⬠exists for a long time or stays in a short time and gone? In another case, in the Vietnamese-American community, everyone knows about Mr Don Chu, singer Ha Phuongââ¬â¢s husband. Although he is not good looking, he is an American billionaire who is managing a billion dollar fund at Wall Street. He is still confident about himself, and people still admire him. Cosmetic surgery requires a lot of time for recovery and has a lot of side effects. After surgery, patients cannot do normal activities, such as sports or heavy lifting. The healing time can take several months, even forever. It depends on health condition, age, and gender. Sometimes, scars are left on the body that cannot be treated by any other surgeries. Moreover, smoking and alcohol are banned within healing time. If not, it can extend healing time and make the case more complicated. Like other surgeries, plastic surgery may lead the death if the equipment or chemicals used in the surgery are not suitable to that patient, or by bleeding. Following the death of a former Miss Argentina after complications arising from plastic surgery, questions are being raised about the risks ofà cosmeticà surgery. Solange Magnano, 37, died in hospital, after being transferred from a clinic where she underwent an elective surgery on her buttocks last Wednesdayâ⬠¦ Magnano is reported to have died from a pulmonary embolism, a blockage of the blood supply to lungs. (ââ¬Å"Models death highlights plastic surgery risksâ⬠) Besides, as with any kind of surgery, it may have side effects. For example, breast implants makes it hard to read a mammogram which helps the body to prevent breast cell cancer. More important, although liposuction is the most common cosmetic surgery, it is also the most dangerous one. ââ¬Å"A report by Dr. Frederick Grazer of Penn State and Dr. Rudolph de Jong of Thomas Jefferson Medical college says that to date, ââ¬Å"917 plastic surgeons reported 95 deaths in over 496,000 liposuction surgeries. If you do the math, that comes out to 19 deaths per 100,000 or 1 death in 5,224â⬠(ââ¬Å"Liposuction safety reportâ⬠). One of the most dangerous side effects is fluid imbalance. During the procedure, the surgeon will put a large amount of fluid inside the body, and some is removed from fat tissue, which causes fluid imbalance. It may cause kidney dysfunctions, heart problem, and too much fluid in the lungs. Cosmetic surgery addiction is one of the most modern addictions, along with internet addiction, shopping addiction, and workholism. According to recent studies, 66 percent of all patients who have a single cosmetic surgery will return to have another. They return, not because the first surgery failed, but because it succeeded and now the patient wants more. Often, these plastic surgery addicts have a perfect image in mind that they want to attain, whether it is a celebrity that they are trying to emulate, or their ideal picture of what they should look like. (ââ¬Å"Plastic Surgery Addictionâ⬠) Among the reasons that cause cosmetic surgery addiction are society trends and Body Dimorphic Disorder (BDD). Nowadays, with the development of media and advertising, people accept with cosmetic surgery more easily. The result is they accept it as a should-have behavior to be beautiful. For example, in their beauty definition, a beautiful girl should have long legs, big breasts, big eyes, or a high nose. Wanting those characteristics compel them to come to a surgeon. Moreover, people with BDD never feel happy even after thousands of cosmetic surgeries. They always see something wrong with their body that must be fixed. Michael Jackson and Jocelyn Wildestein are good examples of this kind of addiction. Michael Jackson had more than ten nose surgeries, according to People Magazine. He spent over two million dollars for surgery over his career to range from a ââ¬Å"handsomeâ⬠black singer to an ââ¬Å"alien with a chimpanzee faceâ⬠who never stopped to surprise people. Jocelyn Wildestein has a similar story to Michaelââ¬â¢s. She spent almost four million dollars on cosmetic surgery over the years. With the nickname ââ¬Å"Bride of Wildestein,â⬠nobody can recognize her now compared with that beautiful woman she was in the 1970s. Plastic surgery is not a good solution for anybody. People should face the truth that they are not beautiful instead of hiding themselves by using plastic surgery. Doing surgery only reflects that they love untrue beauty. There are a lot of ways to improve what they have. For example, if they have a problem with belly fat, they can exercise with a strict nutrition system. If they want a higher nose or bigger eyes, they can put on makeup that still makes them look beautiful without asking a surgeon. Moreover, cosmetic surgery requires a very strict aftercare and causes many kinds of side effects. It takes several months for healing time without any smoking and alcohol during this period. Also no normal activities and heavy lifting are limited. Additionally, breast implants may reduce the ability to detect breast cancer, and liposuction can cause buildup of fluid in the lungs. Finally, cosmetic surgery is a new kind of addiction in this century. People can get addicted either by society trends or BDD, which makes them never feel happy with their body and never say ââ¬Å"Noâ⬠to cosmetic surgery. Red Mud and Pet Coke Physical Properties
Red Mud and Pet Coke Physical Properties 1.1 INTRODUCTION: India is witnessing construction of very interesting projects in all sectors of Infrastructure. Most of the structures are in structural concrete. In Present condition India is the second largest producer of cement in the world behind china. The construction practices are rapidly innovating throughout the world. The pace of infrastructure developments in India requires adoption of new technologies. The country consumed around 238 million metric tons of concrete in previous years. Indias concrete production is calculated to amount to just over 400 million metric tons by 2017. Concrete is the most widely used man-made construction material in the world. The popularity of concrete is due to the fact that from the common ingredients, the properties of concrete are tailored to meet the demand of any particular application. Now-a-days massive construction leads to scarcity of natural resources. It is a big problem emerging in field of construction because of their wide use shortage is happening. Due to this good sand is not available easily. Natural resources are also exhausting very rapidly because of its limited supply, the cost of Natural River sand has sky rocketed and its consistent supply cannot be guaranteed. So, now it is time to find some substitute to natural river sand. Hence, it is mandatory either to quest for another material or partly replace it by some other material. The expense of development moreover gets heightened further more leaving the waste materials to the environment straight forwardly can bring about natural issue. Henceforth the reuse of waste material has been emphasized. There is a growing awareness regarding extensive damage being caused to the environment due to accumulation of waste materials from power houses, industrial plants, colliery pits, demolition sites and it has become one of the major environmental and social issues. Waste materials coming out of industry nowadays is posing a great environmental problem in disposing them into the water, air and on the land. These waste materials can partly be used to produce materials suitable as fine aggregates or fillers in concrete. Use of waste products is not only a partial solution to environmental. Some wastes can significantly improve the properties, matrix and microstructure of concrete. The output of these waste materials in India is more than the production of cement and other construction materials used in all the civil engineering activities. So, the use of waste materials is not only to make the cement concrete less expensive, but to provide a blend of tailored properties of waste material s and OPC suitable for specified purpose. The waste materials which can be found in bulk are commonly known as blast furnace slag, fly ash, silica fumes, solid waste, plastic wastes, Red mud, Pet coke, etc. Partial replacement of Portland cement and sand with waste materials like blast furnace slag, fly ash, silica fumes, Red mud, pet coke, etc. will be a great help in reducing environmental pollution and also in reduction in manufacturing of cement and also minimize the use of natural materials that required for the construction activities. This research work outlines the optimum utilization of waste materials in some construction activities using as a green concept, which ultimately reduces the environmental pollution and suits the economy of project. This study involves Industrial wastes which have major production throughout the world and have negative effect on environment because of their chemical properties. Industrial wastes in this study are Red mud, Petroleum coke and Recron with accelerating admixture. Red mud is a waste material generated by the Bayer Process widely used to produce alumina from bauxite throughout the world. In India more than 20 million tons of red mud is generated annually. The Indian aluminium sector is characterized by large integrated players like Hindalco and National Aluminium Company (Nalco, Alumina plant at Damanjodi, Orissa). However, its high alkalinity is a potential pollution to threat water, land and air. While high costs are associated with the large area of land required for storage of the residue. Currently, it is dumped on land or in the oceans near alumina refineries which creates a great environmental pollution. Red mud is highly caustic due to which it is a good binder material and can be used in concrete technology for construction practices with partial replacement with cement. Among the uses utilization of red mud for building materials production such as cement, bricks, roofing tiles and glass-ceramic is in practice. Fig.1 Red mud Yard Petroleum coke (abbreviated as Pet coke) is a solid by product from oil refineries. It is a carbonaceous solid delivered from Coker units or other cracking processes. It has over 90% carbon. As it has a higher energy content, it emits 30% to 80% more CO2 than coal per unit of weight, it also emits sulphur and vanadium contents during combustion which can be problematic. The annual consumption of pet coke in India is around 14.44 million tons, according to the latest statistics of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. Pet coke can be used in concrete as a replacement of sand for acoustic application. The low density and high porosity properties of pet coke particles suggest that it may also have potential to improve the thermal insulating properties of concrete when added as fine aggregate. It can also be used as plastering, roof concreting, etc for light weight concreting. Fig. 2 Petroleum coke yard Recron is also called Polyester fiber. It acts as secondary reinforcement in concrete which increases resistance to impact and abrasion. It arrests cracks improves quality of construction in tanks, foundations, walls, roads, pre-cast products like pipes, blocks, tiles, manhole covers, asbestos sheets, cement based pre-cast products, etc. Role of Recron 3s is preventive in field of construction; it also controls reduction in water permeability, increase in flexibility, reduction in rebound loss, etc. Admixtures are the additive in concrete other than basic ingredients of concrete; they are added to the mix immediately before or during mixing. These admixtures are used primarily to reduce the cost of concrete construction, to achieve the strength, modify the properties of hardened concrete, to ensure good quality of concrete during transporting, placing, mixing curing and to overcome certain emergencies emerges during concrete operations. These can be added to concrete mix to produce high slump flowing concrete. High range super plasticizer was used in all the concrete mixes to achieve good workability. Super plasticizers are added to reduce the water requirement by 15 to 20% without affecting the workability leading to a high strength and dense concrete. To achieve the uniform workability, the admixture dosage was adjusted without changing the unit water content. By utilizing these wastes other researches has concluded that Red mud and pet coke are good replacement of cement and sand additives like Recron and Admixture helps in improving the properties of concrete. By using optimum amount of Industrial wastes in concrete we can reduce the construction cost and it is very much environmental friendly acheived made the previous researches are done on Red mud, pet coke, Recron and admixture separately by calculating physical tests like compressive strength and tensile strength test. 1.2 importance of study: In this study use of Red mud, Petroleum coke Recron with admixture has been used as a partial replacement of cement and sand in concrete. As Red mud and Petroleum coke both are the waste materials generated in large quantities from Industries they damaging environment from their chemical properties utilization of these materials are done. 1.3 Delimitation: In this study the use of Red mud and Petroleum coke (abbreviated as Pet coke) as a partial replacement of cement and sand is evaluated. Concrete used in the study is M25 with 2.4% of constant admixture in all the mix proportions used in study. 1.4 Objective of the study: To evaluate physical properties like Compressive strength, Tensile strength and Slump value of concrete prepared by partial replacement of Red mud and Pet coke in conjunction with Recron admixture. To find out an optimum percentage of replacement of Red mud and Pet coke along with addition of optimum percentage of Recron and fix % of admixture in M25 grade concrete. To estimate cost reduction by adopting Industrial wastes in designed mix concrete.

Doyle was born on august 5, 1953 in Pittsburg PA. Mike Doyle has a wife, Susan Doyle and 4 children, whose ages are 18, 14, 12, and 5. Doyle was first elected to office November 8, 1994 to the Democratic party. The last time Doyle was elected was November 2, 2004. Doyle went to B.S. Community Development and Penn State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development in 1975. Doyle is licensed in life, accident, health, property, and casualty insurance. In July, 2004 Doyle had called for a legislation to prevent massive power blackouts like the one that hit the northeast this past year. In August 14, 2003, a massive power outage affected more than 50 million people in eight different stats, Ontario, and Quebec in Canada. Many households were without power for several days. This blackout began in Ohio, where three transmission lines short-circuited. An investigation found that the energy company that owned those power lines was in violation of at least four North Electric Reliability Council operating standards. Doyle introduced almost a year ago a legislation that would establish a national Electric Reliability Organization to enforce power reliability standards across the country. Customer confidence in the Marks and Spencer brand remains second to none. According to recent research undertaken by the Company, it shows that, in clothing, Mark and Spencer has a clear lead over all its major competitors in the key areas of fit, quality, trust, breadth of range and customer service. In November of 2000, Marks and Spencer will launch a trial of three new lingerie-only outlets in Paris, Hamburg and Dusseldorf. According to industry statistics, Marks & Spencer remains the clear leader in the UK lingerie market, with over thirty percent of the market share. These pilot stores, distinctly branded 'msl', are designed to showcase the product range, taking the very best of Marks & Spencer lingerie to the Continent. Moreover, twenty-five percent of the 'msl' range has been designed exclusively for the continental market (Marks & Spencer PG). According to David Norgrove, Marks & Spencer Executive Director, the new stores developed by Marks and Spencer "clearly show how we can give customers what they want in the way they want it. Today we have both depth of product and a variety of retail formats, so that we can encompass factory outlet stores and designer clothing under the Marks & Spencer brand. Chobani Case Study Essay
1) From the information about Chobani in the case at the start of the chapter, (a) whom did Hamdi Ulukaya identify as the target for his first cups of Greek yogurt and (b) what was his initial ââ¬Å"4Psâ⬠marketing strategy? a. Hamdi Ulukaya first targeted young and fit Americans with his first cup. b. Hamdi Ulukayas initial ââ¬Å"4Psâ⬠marketing strategy involved product, price, place, and promotion. For product, he focused on the packaging. Made the cup with bright colors so people would be attracted to it. For price, he went straight to the retailers instead of going through distributers. He decided to sell this at every conventional yogurt aisle of traditional supermarkets in America. The last ââ¬Å"Pâ⬠is promotion and at first the only advertisement they had was word of mouth. Eventually they got money and used traditional advertisement, social media, and direct communication with the customer. 2) (a) What marketing actions would you expect the companies selling Yoplait, Dannon, and PepsiCo yogurts to take in response to Chobaniââ¬â¢s appearance and (b) how might Chobani respond? a. What I would expect from these three yogurts is for them to rethink the ââ¬Å"4Psâ⬠. I believe they will focus on how they are promoting their product and also how the product looks. b. I think Chobani will respond with something better in both promoting and how the product looks due to Chobani setting the new standard of the product. 3) What are (a) the advantages and (b) the disadvantages of Chobaniââ¬â¢s Customer Loyalty Team that handles communication with customers-from phone calls and emails to Facebook and Twitter messages? a. Advantages Keeps the company updated with new product ideas The communication is faster with having this specific team b. Disadvatages Could be too slow to read and respond to every email and message 4) As Chobani seeks to build its brand, it opened a unique retail store in New York City: Chobani SoHo. Why did Chobani do this? Chobani did this to explore what type of new markets and products they could find in the U.S. They are trying to find the people that like flavors that are very unique. For example, pistachios and chocolate yogurt. 5) (a) What criteria might Chobani use when it seeks markets in new countries and (b) what three orà four countries meet these criteria? a. The Criteria Chobani might use when seeking new markets is flavor, price, and cultural differences. I believe the flavor canââ¬â¢t to be too crazy, it has to be somewhat a little similar to American. The price has to be affordable to the average man. What I mean about the cultural differences is similar to what I said about the flavor, it canââ¬â¢t be something completely different to what Americans are used to here in the U.S. b. I believe this criterion fits Canada, Ireland, and Mexico.
